5 Ways to Be More Successful as an Online Freelancer

1.Make Sure You Market Yourself – There are many ways to market yourself online. You can try guest blogging on related sites, running a Pay-Per-Click ad campaign to your website, regularly commenting on related forums and offering your services and much more. Make sure you are spending at least 10-20% of your time marketing yourself to bring in new work. Even if you are already working full time, by pulling in more demand for new work, you will end up being able to increase your pay per hour.

2.Make Sure To Make Employers Happy – Even if a job is small, you never know which employer is going to be the one that ends up being able to bring you consistant work. It’s always in your best interest to go the extra mile to make your employer happy. Not only can that turn into more work in the future, but employers will often recommend your services to other employers.

3.Make Sure You Are Charging Enough – Nothing is worse than working full time and still coming up short when it comes time to pay bills. In the very beginning of your career, it’s ok to take a few lower paying jobs just to build up your feedback when you are first starting out, but after a while, make sure you set an hourly limit on what you will work for, otherwise, the time you spend working for pay that is too low, is time you could have been marketing yourself for high paying work.

4.Take Advantage of Freelance Job Boards – There are at least 100 freelance job sites online in the US alone. Take advantage of those sites and start bidding on work. Even though you may worry that your bid is competing with quotes from foreigners who can afford to work for less, many employers would rather pay more per job just to have the convenience of working with someone in a closer time zone and no language barriers.

5.Manage Your Time Effectively – One of the hardest things for a freelancer is time management. Especially when working online, there are so many distractions, with news, social media and other little online distractions. To be successful with freelancing, it’s important to avoid distractions during working hours and focus on the task at hand.

A successful freelance career comes from being organized and using your time and skills as efficiently as possible.
